Regional Plastics Policy Coordinator, Africa
Plastic pollution is an accelerating global environmental, social and health crisis, largely caused by inadequate and national policy responses. WWF has over the last decade pushed for a new legally binding treaty on plastic pollution to establish the rules and regulations needed to end plastic pollution. Over the next few years, the WWF No Plastic In Nature initiative aims to contribute to the adoption of the necessary new global rules, to further strengthen them over time and to support national offices in their implementation.
International plastic pollution negotiations require strategic and tactical negotiation skills, an ability to think outside of the box, an openness to lessons learned from other processes, and the courage when necessary to recommend alternative paths to reach the end goal of strong global policies and regulations across plastic products, uses and levels. As the Regional Plastics Policy Coordinator, Africa, you will play a critical role in strengthening WWF's policy, advocacy and coordination efforts globally and across Africa for addressing plastic pollution, specifically by means of the international legally binding instrument (global treaty). The location of the role is flexible and can be based in any African country.

- Develop strategic partnerships with key organizations and NGOs working on plastic pollution on the continent
- Identify needs and ensure development of policy papers, briefs, and other policy and advocacy products relevant for driving the global and regional plastics policy agenda in Africa
- Work closely with the Global Advocacy Manager, the other regional coordinators and the Global Plastics Policy Lead, and other WWF teams including the policy development team and campaigns team
Qualifications and experience:

- Deep understanding of environmental policy - plastic pollution and circular economy issues in particular
- Sound understanding of political issues, trends and developments in Africa and globally
- Ability to adapt to varied audiences from academia to civil society and governments to international agencies.
