Global Plastic Policy Lead
WWF is one of the world's largest environmental organizations with a presence in nearly 100 countries. We work to stop the destruction of nature and create a future where people live in harmony with nature. WWF works knowledge-based and purposefully to create solutions to the underlying causes of climate change and loss of nature. Our values are courage, respect, integrity and collaboration. We are now looking for a passionate global leader with the aim of transforming the international policy framework on plastic pollution.
Global Plastic Policy Lead (Fixed-term contract - 2 years)
Plastic pollution is an accelerating global environmental, social and health crisis, largely caused by inadequate and national policy responses. WWF has over the last decade pushed for a new legally binding treaty on plastic pollution to establish the rules and regulations needed to end plastic pollution. Over the next years, the WWF No Plastic in Nature Initiative aims to contribute to the adoption of the necessary new global rules, to further strengthen them over time and to support national WWF offices in their implementation.
As the Global Plastics Policy Lead, you will further develop and strengthen WWF's leadership capacities on plastic pollution. You will manage the WWF Global Plastic Policy Team, ensuring a strong and influential team that is world-leading on plastic policy capacity, advocacy, and outreach. Your work will ensure that WWF is one of the leading non-governmental actors in the development of the treaty on plastic pollution while supporting the adoption and implementation of WWF’s policy priorities at a national level through the WWF Network.
International plastic pollution negotiations require strategic and tactical negotiation skills, an ability to think outside of the box, an openness to lessons learned from other processes, and the courage when necessary to recommend alternative paths to reach the end goal of strong global policies and regulations across plastic products, uses and levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead WWF's network strategy development and implementation on global plastics policy, ensuring broad global participation and inclusion, across national offices and thematic practices.
Lead WWF's engagement in the Plastic Pollution Treaty negotiations and ensure coordination of WWF Network offices.
Identify plastic pollution policy priorities for the WWF network and support implementation through National Offices.
Represent WWF in relevant global forums and develop high-level relationships with decision-makers.
Be the global spokesperson on global plastic policy for the WWF Network.
Manage the WWF Global Plastic Policy Team, guiding team members in their work and professional growth.
Identify and mobilize fundraising opportunities for WWF’s Global Plastic Policy Team.
Ensure timely and high quality reporting for ongoing projects.
Live WWF’s values: Courage, Integrity, Respect & Collaboration.
Qualifications:
Master's degree or equivalent in relevant field.
Passion for making a global change for plastic pollution.
Leadership experience in international teams and networks.
Strong team management skills in a global context.
Expertise in international policy and achieving results in multilateral settings.
Knowledge of policies on plastic pollution at different levels of governance.
Excellent spokesperson and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and ideally a relevant existing network.
Fluency in English. Additional UN language is an asset.
We offer:
At WWF, you will be part of a passionate and inclusive working environment with competent and commited colleagues.
You will gain valuable experience in an organization that is a committed challenger and a provider of solutions to many of the most important political issues of our time.
At WWF, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in a knowledge-based and well-respected environmental organization.
Office arrangements and additional benefits depend on agreed location and hosting office for the position.
Deadline for applications: February 1, 2026.
Application and CV must be in English. If you have any questions, please contact Tora Toreng (Team Lead, Plastics) at tora.toreng@wwf.no

In Norway, we work to preserve natural values and biodiversity in the sea and on land. We spend a lot of time influencing Norwegian environmental policy and legislation to achieve our environmental goals. In 2020, WWF ran the TV campaign An ocean of opportunities. We support international nature conservation and development projects in several African countries and in Asia. The work is done in collaboration with local people, local organizations and authorities. These projects are mainly funded by Norad. We have an annual turnover of around NOK 260 million, divided between public funds and funds from private donors and the Norwegian Postcode Lottery.
We are Eco-Lighthouse certified, and our greenhouse gas emissions must be in line with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees
